Students who are not Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada need a study permit for programs that are longer than six months.

Documents Required
You will need these documents, at a minimum, to apply:
- Valid passport, at least 6 months before expiry
- Two passport-size photos with your name and date of birth written on the back
- Letter of Acceptance (LOA)
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), if applicable
- Proof of financial support
Processing time
Processing time for a study permit from a Canadian Embassy, Consulate Office, High Commission, or Visa Centre can take six to eight weeks, or more. It is your responsibility to make sure that you are able to report to the College on the date specified in your Letter of Acceptance before the semester begins to attend a course planning session, write any necessary placement tests, and obtain necessary course registration information.
- Students who studied at a secondary school (e.g., high school) in Canada and plan to attend Langara, must apply for a new study permit.
- You cannot begin your studies at Langara College without a valid new Study Permit.
- The secondary school study permit will no longer be valid 90 days after you complete your high school studies, regardless of the expiration date that is shown on your study permit.
Application Refusal
If the Canadian government refuses your application for a study permit, you may request a refund of your Langara International Student Deposit.
Clearing Customs Upon Arrival
Carry your original documents with you when travelling – do not pack originals in checked baggage. You should have the following documents:
- Passport
- Study Permit or Port of Entry Letter of Introduction (POE)
- Letter of Acceptance from Langara
- Proof of funds
- Proof of registration
- Accommodation information
