About Homestay

The Langara Homestay Program gives students the chance to live with host families while they complete their education. Host families welcome new people and cultures into their homes and encourage their students to feel like part of their host family, and many develop relationships that last for years. 

Eligibility 

Homestay is available to: 

• Langara College domestic and international students 

• International high school students from the Vancouver School District or Burnaby School District. 

How are host families selected?  

• We select host families through a rigorous screening process that includes an in-person interview, a home visit and a background check.
• Our goal is to ensure that host families are welcoming, responsible, and committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for students.

What to Expect 

While it may be a challenging experience to understand a new culture, language, and adjust to a new family, we are here to help you adapt to your new Canadian home. 

Costs

• Placement fee ($550)
• Administrative fee ($150 per semester)
• First and last month’s homestay fee ($1350 per month)
• Airport pick-up upon arrival ($150 - optional)

• Apply at least two months before your program start date.
• You will need to include a copy of your program’s Letter of Acceptance in your application and applicable homestay fees.
• If you are a LEAP student, please indicate that you are interested in Homestay on your LEAP application.

Deadlines 

• Complete your application form and return it with applicable homestay fees by the dates listed below.

• Students who arrive in Vancouver before the homestay start dates must find their own accommodation in Vancouver until the homestay start date. 

• Students who do not apply and pay the placement fee and deposit by the application deadline will not have a homestay arranged for them.
