Scholarships

Langara College scholarships and awards are intended to recognize and support the outstanding achievement of our students. 

All scholarship and award recipients must satisfy the following criteria for departmental scholarships:

  • be a full-time Regular Studies student in the semester for which the scholarship or award will be received
  • currently registered in a minimum of nine credits and in a minimum of nine credits in one of the past two semesters
  • enrolled in at least their second semester of study
  • must be in good standing at the College
  • have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • meet any additional scholarship criteria specified by a donor; these can be found under the scholarship name on our website
  • most departmental scholarships do not require applications and students are selected by recommendation by program Faculty when they meet the specific scholarship criteria. If applications are required, please check with the specific department chair of the program

Scholarship and award recipients must satisfy all criteria specified by a donor, unless the donor agrees to waive those criteria.

Specific criteria for scholarships awarded in the Spring semester:

J.S. Osborne Scholarship for Social Justice

To be awarded to a student who demonstrates good academic ability in courses at Langara and has demonstrated their interest in social justice through volunteer work, paid work, projects, or interests at school. The interest should be detailed in a 300 word essay submitted to the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department. The recipient must have completed at least 30 credits in any program and have a stated intention to pursue further education at any post-secondary institution. Please pick up and submit applications for this award to the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department at Langara College.

Specific criteria for scholarships awarded in the Fall semester:

Mike Passmore Memorial Scholarship in Criminal Justice

Recognizes a student registered in the third term of the Criminal Justice program who intends to pursue a career in the field of Criminal Justice. The recipient must have demonstrated good academic performance in the first two terms of the program. They must also demonstrate good citizenship in the program, the College, and the community, particularly in group work and in relation to issues of social justice. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need.
