About

Note: As of the Spring (January) Semester 2025 intake, applications for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) have been suspended until further notice.

General information

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a degree program for students interested in careers in the fields of Accounting, Business, International Business or Marketing. It is student-centred, and its primary aim is to give graduates real business skills - the skills that employers are looking for. The program can be completed in four years if taken on a full-time basis (five courses per semester); however, students have the flexibility of attending part-time if they so desire. The BBA is designed to give students maximum flexibility in delivery methods and schedules. Courses, particularly in the third and fourth year, are offered in the evening, on weekends, and online (in whole or in part).

The BBA program curriculum (including Accounting, Marketing, International Business and Management) is under review, and intake of new students will be paused beginning January 1, 2025.

Students who are currently enrolled in the BBA, or who start before intake is paused, will be able to complete their degree. All required courses will be offered to ensure students can complete all necessary elements of their BBA program.

If you are currently enrolled in a two-year business diploma program or a two-year university transfer diploma program with the Langara School of Management, rest assured that this will have no impact on your studies in the diploma program. If your intent is to transfer into the BBA, we encourage you to apply immediately.

FAQs for 2025 BBA program pause
Can I finish my current BBA degree program? Will my courses still be available?

The BBA program is under revision and intake of new students will be paused beginning January 2025. Students who are enrolled in the BBA currently, or who start before intake is paused, will be able to complete their degree. All required courses will be offered to ensure students can complete all necessary elements of their BBA degree.

Langara's business diploma programs will continue as usual, with all courses in the diploma program continuing. While we are working to create an updated BBA program, we will not enroll new students beginning spring 2025. This is a temporary measure. Students may still enroll in the two-year diploma program and would be able to either transfer to another post-secondary institution to complete a degree or apply to join Langara's new BBA program once it launches.

What if I am a current business diploma student and want to transfer to the new BBA?

If you are currently enrolled in a two-year business diploma program with the Langara School of Management, the upcoming changes will have no impact on your studies in the diploma program. If your intent is to transfer into the current BBA program, we encourage you to apply immediately. If you are an Accounting, Business Management, Financial Management, or Marketing Management diploma student, please speak with an advisor regarding your options for transferring into the BBA for fall 2024.

What if I am a university transfer student enrolled in a two-year diploma program?

Students who plan on completing their business degree at another post-secondary institution will be unaffected by these changes. If your intent is to transfer into the current BBA, we encourage you to apply immediately. You must be enrolled in the BBA for the fall 2024 term.

When will the BBA open applications again? Can I wait till then?

We will share more information about the new BBA curriculum and reopening of applications as soon as we can. You may wish to enroll in one of the diploma programs—Accounting, Business Management, Financial Management or Marketing Management—and apply to continue your studies in the BBA program once admissions reopen. If you are a former BBA student who wishes to return to complete the program, please speak to an advisor regarding your options. Please visit langara.ca/admissions for details.

If I apply to the BBA for summer or fall 2024, will the courses that I need be offered?

All required courses will continue to be offered to current students, both in the diploma program and those currently enrolled in the BBA program. There is no change to BBA admissions for summer 2024 or fall 2024.

Why does the BBA need to be revised?

As part of best practices, all educational programs are reviewed and revised from time to time. We are working on updating the degree program to ensure it continues to meet the changing nature of business into the coming decades.

What about general students who are taking business courses for credit for other program requirements and/or as electives?

The upcoming changes to the four-year BBA degree will not affect other Langara students who are taking business courses for credit or other program requirements and/or electives. These courses will continue to be offered.

When is the last day I can apply for the fall 2024 semester?

All admission dates for programs are available here: Langara. Admissions: Career Studies: Application Information.

When will the new version (curriculum) of the program be implemented?

Faculty and staff are working to submit a new BBA curriculum to the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills for review. We will continue to inform the Langara community about our progress.

Concentrations

  • Accounting
  • Business Management
  • International Business Management
  • Marketing Management

The BBA has concentrations in Accounting, Business Management, International Business Management, and Marketing Management. Each of these concentrations provides graduates with expertise in their subject area as well as a thorough understanding of all aspects of business. As well, students have the opportunity to take a variety of non-business courses so that they graduate with a well-rounded education. The BBA Accounting concentration includes the requirements necessary to maximize exemptions for the professional accounting associations (CGA, CMA, CA).

In the first two years (minimum 60 credits) of the degree, students are advised to complete diploma requirements in one of the following programs: Accounting, Business Management, Financial Management, or Marketing Management. Students who plan their courses accordingly may opt to exit after completing diploma requirements. Students who complete diploma and degree requirements will graduate with both credentials.

In keeping with the emphasis of providing students with real business skills, all concentrations of the BBA require that students complete at least one type of work experience before registering in BUSM 4200: Strategic Management. Co-op allows students to obtain real work experience and demonstrate mastery of new skills. An alternate option for those who already have business experience may be a 420-hour flexible assessment based on past work. Students are encouraged to visit the Co-op & Career Development Centre office early in the program to discuss options and timing.

There are two access routes for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Program:

  • First-Year Entry
  • Third-Year Entry

Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is a four-year baccalaureate degree in business for students interested in careers in the fields of Accounting, Business, and Marketing. The degree provides a solid foundation of theory and practical knowledge with specialized courses in each of the three concentrations. The BBA is highly applied in that students work closely with organizations, applying their knowledge to business situations as they learn.

The degree program may be completed on a full-time (4 years) or part-time basis and it is designed to offer maximum flexibility in delivery methods and schedules. Many courses, particularly at the third-and fourth-year level, are offered in the evenings, on weekends and online.

The program offers a mix of classroom lectures, guest speakers, industry experts, and field trips. This combination provides students with the opportunity to build business contacts.

Langara School of Management

The Langara School of Management is pleased to be able to deliver Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) and Diploma programs that provide a strong business foundation as well as specialization in a variety of business fields. If you are committed to gaining an excellent business education, we encourage you to discover what the Langara School of Management has to offer.

First-year entry

By applying to the School of Management BBA programs and entering in year 1, you have the option of completing a BBA Degree, exiting after two years with a diploma, or earning both the BBA and a diploma. All our programs offer Co-operative Education options.

Third-year entry

Students with previous business education may enter the School of Management BBA programs in year 3.

Co-operative education

Students who wish to participate in this option must maintain above-average academic standing and demonstrate potential for success in their chosen professional field.

Diploma students can complete 1-2 work terms and BBA students can complete 1-4 work terms. A minimum of one work term for the diploma or a minimum of three work terms for the BBA need to be completed in order for the co-op designation to be recognized on the student’s transcript.

Participating in the co-op process allows students to better define their value and skill set as well as understand the hiring cycle. By completing multiple co-op work terms, students are able to explore career options related to their field of study. Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge, to develop skills in a practical work setting, and to gain related experience before commencing their professional careers. Co-op students often land full-time roles in their field of study prior to graduation as a result of participating in co-op.
