In 2016 Musqueam honoured Langara with the name snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓, which means “house of teachings” in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓.

Our name references the advice given to a child to build their character and guide them into adulthood. The naming ceremony, held January 11, 2016, was led by Langara Elder in Residence Gail Sparrow and the late Musqueam Siem Henry Charles.

As part of the ceremony, Musqueam gifted Langara with a rock from one of their original village sites. The College has placed a plaque on this rock, which is located at the centre of campus (near the security office), to acknowledge our location on Musqueam territory and the name they have given us.
