Accounting Programs

Professional accountants are leaders in today’s business world. They are professionals who lead by example in their technical knowledge, sector-specific competencies, decision-making skills, and ethical integrity. Langara College offers programs which provide graduates with the tools needed to achieve rewarding careers in accounting and finance management.

Langara College has flexible options for individuals interested in completing a diploma, certificate, or those taking select courses towards their accounting designation. Langara courses are recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC, and are designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills required to effectively communicate, manage, and lead in today’s business environment. The programs integrate accounting with general business and information technology tools to allow students to maximize their contribution to the success of their organization.

Students who have completed previous course work and would like to have it approved as a prerequisites or exemptions towards the certificate must provide documents, in the form of official transcripts, along with a completed Exemption/Prerequisite Approval Form before registration.

International students are required to comply with Academic, English Proficiency and Study Permit requirements. You can find more information on full-time or part-time study, or contact Langara Global.

Short Certificate in Advanced Accounting

Rapidly advancing technology, globalization of business and industry, and a strong focus on business ethics has placed new demands on the skill set and education of accountants. The Advanced Accounting Certificate will meet these demands by providing education that integrate advanced accounting skills with current changes in the role of an accountant. This program is ideal for individuals who already have some introductory and intermediate accounting education but still need to complete advance-level courses to meet their remaining CPA prerequisite requirements.

CPA Recognized

A CPA, or Chartered Professional Accountant, is a globally recognized and respected professional designation given to experienced professionals. Courses in the Advanced Accounting Diploma program are recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC towards entry into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). Students who already hold a four-year bachelor's degree may be eligible for the CPA PEP program upon completion of the Advanced Accounting Diploma program. It's recommended that students contact the association directly to ensure you meet any other entry requirements.

If you would like to take our courses to satisfy your CPA Preparatory Course requirements for entry into CPA PEP, please follow the steps below.

  1. Reach out to CPA to request and receive a CPA Transcript Assessment. CPAWSB uses the transcript assessment to verify whether you are eligible to directly enroll in CPA PEP or if you have any CPA Preparatory Course(s) outstanding to complete.
  2. In the CPA Transcript Assessment, you can identify which CPA Preparatory Course(s) are outstanding and the corresponding CPA-recognized course in Langara Continuing Studies (CS). Please refer to the CPA-Recognized Course Table below.
  3. After confirming the Langara CS Courses you will need to take, you will then need to check our course schedule if the course(s) are offered in the semester and if each CS course have prerequisites. If there are course prerequisites, then you will need to submit the below three items to csaccounting@langara.ca to receive prerequisite override in order to register into the courses.
    1. CPA Transcript Assessment
    2. Prerequisite Approval Form
    3. Your Official Transcript from the institution where the equivalent coursework was completed
  4. Once your prerequisites are approved, you may then register for the course by contacting Continuing Studies Registration Office at 604-323-5322 - see Registration page for more details.
  5. Upon completion of a CS CPA-recognized course, you can contact CPAWSB to receive exemption in your CPA Preparatory Course requirements. Please note that a course exemption in a Continuing Studies (CS) accounting program does not equal to exemption to CPA Preparatory Course. Students taking CS courses only for the purpose of fulfilling CPA Preparatory Course requirements for CPA PEP do not need to request for CS course exemptions.

For more information about CPA PEP entry requirements, please contact the CPA association directly by visiting the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC website.
