Description
This course will teach students how to build and use an effective home-based recording studio. Sound dampening, acoustic control and modeling will be covered extensively in this course. Students will learn about the various types of microphones on the market and when is the appropriate situation to use them. Recording techniques for vocals will be covered extensively including looping takes and segments. Recording techniques for a variety of instruments will also be explored, such as miking, reverb and compression techniques for brass, woodwind and plucked acoustic instruments. Recording techniques for electric instruments such as electric guitars and basses will also be covered in-depth. Students will also spend time in a large commercial recording studio to learn about instrument and vocal recording in that environment.Learning Outcomes:- Construct a soundproofed room using dampening material- Demonstrate an understanding of the differences in microphone styles- Use appropriate methods of reverb, EQ and compression for a variety of instruments- Demonstrate the ability to properly record vocals- Use a commercial recording studio to capture a variety of instruments & vocals
